Bad knee pain.

Bad knee pain.

Bad knee pain.

You couldn't bend one knee properly?

An answer might be:

It could be that you might be eating too many spicy foods. What this means is that you're eating too many lectins. These over the years may help cause inflammation in the joints, but not necessarily all joints. Just the ones that have been aggravated the most will show the earliest signs of wear and tear. However this should not make you think that wear and tear are inevitable, because although wear and tear happens to us all, there is no reason with rest that the damage shouldn't be repaired.

There is another reason that your knee could be hurting, apart from the obvious things like injury or lack of rest, and that is an autoimmune response attacking the area. This is caused when your own white blood cells have confused the area in and around your knee with a foreign invader. This may be caused by a heightened immune system that may have been heightened by toxic chemicals, mould or the worst lectin of all. Gluten. Gluten contains WGA wheat germ glutamate, this is often mistaken by the body's immune system as a foreign invader. Once the body identifies an invader, the white blood cells will look for the pattern match for that invader, and when we get an inflamed part of the body it can be caused by our body's antibodies looking to fix the area. So if there are antibodies there it is a good indication that you need to consider using the elimination diet for six weeks and see if the pain goes away. Whilst on the elimination diet you may as well include dairy. So just for your knee cut out dairy wheat and spices. Six weeks from now we'll see if there is any improvement.

If I remember correctly didn't you say you were taking something for blood pressure?
An answer might be:

So high blood pressure is normal when walking up stairs, because you are exerting yourself. It is also normal if you have a skeletal curve and your heart is having to pump harder to get the oxygen up to your brain etc. But in your case it is more likely related to a furring up of the arteries. Hopefully I'm wrong, but don't feel bad about your self because, even if you have always taken good care of yourself in the past, this isn't really related to exercise or strength, in fact, because I know you eat well too and don't drink too much it must be hard to see how you may have played any part in your own demise. Don't take this the wrong way, it's not your fault. We were sold the idea that carbs were safe and that fat was bad. This has been the mantra for more then 50 years. But it may of been wrong, according to There are lots of books out now saying this too for example the One study I came across recently said a doctor got a bunch of dead young GI's back from the Korean war 1950 to 1953, and was allowed to perform autopsies, but to the docs surprise, the doc discovered that of these GI's in their late teens and early twenties a already had the beginnings of heart disease. (furring up of the arteries). This was not due to their lack of exercise or them being old or their poor diet or them being overweight, but the doc concluded that this heart disease must have been something else. The doc was right about that. It has taken many years to figure this out, but if the GI's had been raised on a high fat diet like the keto diet, like many others have since the 1920's due their personal tragedy of having epileptic fits, then like them you would have clear arteries. Incidentally those keto dieters also had crystal clear amyloid plaque free brains. Now this was a bit of a shock because as some people already know epilectic fit leave behind terrible damage to the brain, a little bit like and concussion. So their brains should show lot's of damage. For our purposes all we need to know is that they were carb free and did not have heart disease! The three culprits that fur up arteries are wheat, rice and potato. One cup of any of these starches is the equivalent of about 17 cups of vegetables. Eg spring greens, broccoli, celery, pak choi, spinach, beans, cauliflower, onion, all mushrooms, tinned tomatoes, just take the pips out, cabbage, cucumber, and lots more. Just as a side, we hear that veg is not high in protein sometimes, but a kilo of broccoli contains 30g protein and only 45g of carbs/starch. So roast your carrots, swedes and sweet peppers and turnips and pile your plate up high and poor loads of olive oil and balsamic vinegar add as much iodised sea salt as you want and fill your boots. It's almost worth getting to like olive oil since it is so good for us. More on this later. So avoiding carbs is the first step. Read on if you would like to become healthy really quickly. Because heart disease took years to happen and it will take years to reverse, but would you rather 2 to 4 years or 10 to 15?

Why do I need to be in keto? I hear you asking?
Well being in ketosis starts what's called the production of therapeutic ketones and these are produced by the liver. These then circulate around the bloodstream and act as sugar therefore replacing carbohydrates. It has been said by an expert in the field "that if you show ketones for two years then you'll have arrested heart disease". The keto diet also provides a measure in the form of ketones to gauge how well you are doing. It's not a diet where you spend six months and go back for a checkup and find it's not working or that you have not been doing it properly. With Keto you either produce ketones or not. And if you find you are having difficulty producing ketones then we can get to the root of the problem almost right away. This therefore gives you immediate feedback.

One of the positive side effects of having produced ketones for a number of weeks, is that you would have simultaneously got off sugar and carbs and starches (same thing), and you would have got used to eating healthy fats, (olive oil, coconut fat, almond oil, walnut oil, and avocado oil), and will have converted you metabolism from using sugars to using fats as fuel, which means that since we all have plenty of fat stores built up over the years, that we will never be caught short without food and suffer that energy crash that seems to nearly always accompanied carb diets. This has the positive side effect of burning all that excess fat we carry around with us all day, and if we are not interested in losing any weight then we just eat more. However the important distinction here is that it is our choice, not our addictions choice!

Talking of addiction, if like I used to be, you are finding your cravings for sugar a bit difficult to curb, then listen up. I've read 11 books on addiction and the road can be a long drawn out step by step decrease in carbs. That is slowly swapping out one carb choice for one less high on the glucose index chart and keep doing this until you're practically carb free (30 - 50g) a day. Or like a friend recently said, "I just cut out all carbs sweeteners sugar dairy milk chocolate, crisps everything!, and two weeks later I was off them! All I eat now are vegies and meat oh and the occasional shot of alcohol for fun.". So both options work. Some advice when dealing with triggers,(those horible encounters that make you want carbs or sugar), and mood swings is to consider what When he said if a thought pops into your head saying "that now would be a good time to eat carbs", he said just remember that that is your subconscious trying to satisfy what it thinks is your goal. Especially since you were probably eating carbs for many years, it is not surprising it would do that. So when it arrives he just says to himself, "this is from the old me in the past that eats carbs. This is the new me now. I don't eat carbs. So this thought is out of time. Next Lewis David said that cravings are like waves, they always crash on the shore no matter how big they are. And the frequency between waves ebbs and flows until they become completely calm seas. The next piece of advice is from where he says that "One day he was walking down the Kings road, happily married and his daughter of 3 years old. When suddenly he saw and spotted a beautiful long legged blond or brunette, I don't remember, crossing the street and he was catapulted for a brief moment into another world, where he forgot that he was married and had a child and was happy. And he said I had 1 - 3 seconds to bring it back, or my emotions would take over and who knows what would happen. So he said, it is his job to keep control and not allow the thought to persist." Luckily for us it is just carbs or some alcohol if we are not alcoholics, but for Russell I believe him when he says it is a real big deal.

The next thing to do is start decreasing the window in which you eat. For example if you eat breakfast at 7am and your last meal is at 9pm that's an eating window of 14 hours. Start small and just reduce it by a few hours at a time until you feel comfortable. So skipping breakfast is a good idea. So now maybe your first meal is at 10am and your last meal is one hour earlier say 8pm that's an eating window of 10 hours. Keep doing this slowly but only after you have been producing ketones for at least 4 weeks and in some cases you'll need to be producing ketones for 8 weeks so you choose. It is possible to get down to one meal a day and this will feel absolutely fine when you get to doing it. You won't feel hungry or feel like you're missing out, you'll just start to feel healthier then you have felt in years.

Why do this intermittent fasting thing as well? Good question!
Keto and no carbs will indeed do a lot to stop the damage being done, but it does little to accelerate the repair process. It will promote health but will not accelerate it. For example I had an injury to my finger and it was diagnosed as a trigger finger by myself. I couldn't open my finger past a certain point and if I did manage to get it past that certain point it would hurt a lot, this was due to my ligament shrinking and getting tighter. I didn't like it and it was painful and it seemed to only get worse despite being in keto. Even where my ligament joined in my hand at the base of my thumb was starting to ache. However the moment I introduced intermittent fasting as proposed I felt an improvement. Within 3 weeks the finger and the ligament were back to normal. No pain. I was thinking I may have to quit work and sport except running, it did get me really worried. Now this process of accelerated healing has its basis in science too. The advantage of reducing your eating window, although remember you don't need to reduce your calories in that window, you eat the same calories, just in a shorter space of time, is that your body is given a chance to not only rest the digestive system, which can only be a good thing, but also it causes your body to go into what is called autophagy. This is a process by which the human body after a period of time decides to start recycling some of its old cells and reuse the material recycled, since you haven't eaten for a while. The good brought about by this recycling should not be underestimated. This process has now been linked to help solve a whole host of health related problems. The man responsible is Yoshinori Ohsumi is a Japanese cell biologist specializing in autophagy. This recycling will take all those free radicals floating around your body and mop them up too. This is really good because it was shown that free radicals which are damaged cells with an electron missing are looking to bond with something and cause problems in the body, this is known as cellular waste, and autophagy is a cellular waste collection process.
